Mixin it Up - Foundation...

This is a bit of a random post, but its basically a bit of a fishing one to find out if other people do this, and what their favourite combos are... What am I on about? Mixing foundations!

I have a bit of a "thing" for foundation - the concept of the HG foundation is a bit lost on me - there is always something else coming onto the market that I want to try, and also, I'm one of those people who likes to be able to creat different looks on my skin, depending on the weather, the rest of the makeup/clothes I am wearing etc etc...

BUT - I am on something of a spending ban at the moment - I am saving up as much money as I can, for various reasons I won't bore you with, so I'm having to get a bit creative. And I like it!

One of the foundations I have had for ages is Chanel Pro-Lumiere. I really love this foundation - I love the dewy finish and the long lasting effect it has without me having to powder it... The problem is that the shade I have is too dark for me (I have number 20, should have insisted on shade 10, but I made the mistake of listening to an MUA who was clearly into "adding warmth" with foundation. Her skin was orange basically)

So... I was faced with a problem, and I'd kind of relegated this foundation to a "summer only" shade, or a foundation I could only use when I'd fake tanned etc... I was even (reluctantly) thinking of selling it...

Another foundation in my collection that I love for different reasons in Bourjois ten hour sleep effect... I love the way it feels on the skin, very light and moist (great for dry skin, not sure oily types would like it!). Love the scent (apricotty), and it makes me look well rested (as the name promises). However... I picked up the lightest shade in the range (51), and shockingly, its too light for me - not a problem I ever encounter with many foundations, and also I find it doesn't last too well on my skin.
My cunning solution (as if you couldn't guess)? I mix one pump of each, and I get a great foundation - I get the benefits of both foundations, and (it seems) little of the bad points I associate with them...

Bourjois ten hour sleep effect is now my standby for when I need to lighten a foundation, or take down the thick texture of any liquid foundation...Eeee, its like I'm getting a new foundation every day (Jeez, I seriously have the attention spam of a goldfish!)
Oooh... a shiny thing! (picture sourced here)

So - do any of you lovely peeps do this? What combo's do you like, and why?

I only tend to mix foundations if I don't like them on their own, because then it means they get used. Like I hated MAC Studio Sculpt so I mixed it with my Studio Fix Fluid to use it up. It actually made the Studio Fix a lot lighter so it totally worked in that way. I'm more into mixing foundations with illuminating lotions like Strobe liquid. Oh and Vanilla pigment is well nice mixed in foundation.

@LegsEleven7 - I'm guessing you love a dewier look from your foundations then? I prefer that on the whole, matte makes me look a bit drab, I just play with different coverages and levels of shine lol... Great tip about the vanilla pigment too!

i started mixing my foundations with a moisturiser as they are often thick and i like a lightweight foundation. also strobe cream is great to give a more dewy look and to give a sheerer finish which is often good if you buy the wrong shade as its not so visible!

@Kerry - thats a great tip - I have strobe cream, and I usually use it as a primer, but I'll definitely give that a go! Thanks xxx

My Mineralize Satinfinish is waaaaay too dark (NW20 is the lightest they make *sad face*) so I've been mixing it with my Revlon Colourstay to lighten but maintain coverage and it's a great combo! Or if I want to sheer it out I'll mix it with my Rimmel Perfecting Skin Primer in #002

I like to mix moisturiser or Benefit High Beam in with Revlon Colourstay, as I find this foundation way to thick and hard to blend on its own.......If I had a "HG" foundation it would be my Chanel Vitalumiere it's perfect at covering but not making my overly dry skin feel tight or caked in foundation..I love it!!...xx

I always mix foundations, always high-end with drugstore simply cos I'm stingy and don't want to use all my expensive ones plus perfect colour match!

Love Teint Resist YSL with Bourjois Healthy Mix or Maybelline Satin finish with Nars Sheer Glow!

I think foundation is my favourtite makeup topic (at least at the moment), I can ramble about it for hours :-) I also have Pro Lumiere in 20 because guess what: #10 isn't available in my country! But I never mixed it with anything else. Actually, I think I fear that if I start mixing my foundations, I'll never be able to justify purchasing another one again (mathematically, 7 foundations to mix equals 7^7 possibilities, I'm not even able to compute that). But what the heck, I'll give this a try, I actually want to mix foundation with BB cream.

I quite often mix mine. Especially if I have my fake tan on and need to darken one.

If the foundation is too light I will just mix a tiny bit of darker foundation in. I mix different brands too. I've been known to mix a bit of Rimmel with Revlon etc. I mixed a bit of Rimmel soft beige into my Collection 2000 lasting perfection in Ivory a few days to deepen it and it worked briliantly!

A great thing to use when you want to lighten a foundation is a liquid illuminator. I use Revlon Skinlights. It's discontinued but you can still buy it on ebay. It's great. x

I always struggle to find the right shade for my skintone, so I should mix them, but can never be bothered! What would be the equivalent of NC15 in Illamasqua foundations?

I mix Pro Lumiere No 10 with mac face and body in c1. No 10 is too dark for me, those ma's at chanel all look orange! They do have limited colour choices though..to be fair :)

I love mixing foundations and do it almost every day.. either for colour matching purposes or for the effects. For example, most mornings I mix maybelline super silky (for the staying power and coverage) with some mufe hd (for the better colour and thinner texture). xxx

I tend to mix:
2/5 Illamasqua Rich liquid foundation
2/5 Lo'real Studio Secrets primer 1/5 Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 010

I'm sadly to pale to match almost any colour straight out the bottle and i need to mix in a primer to make my Illamasqua foundation even usable.

I do this too :)

I got sunburnt on my face a month ago and it turned into a tan, so my already slightly-too-pale foundation became unusable. I've been mixing it with a tinted moisturiser ythats too dark for me, and I think I've found the perfect colour match!
