I must be mad, as I use two different types of eye makeup remover - one to shift it at the end of the day, and one to tidy up the inevitable mascara splodges I create when I haphazardly throw some mascara on at 6.30 am before an early shift.
These are the two I am currently liking...
To remove heavy eye makeup, I use this neat, either rubbed on and massaged for a few seconds with fingers or applied with a cotton-wool round, which I hold on and then swipe away.
For less heavy looks, I use the method I read about on Bubblegarm's Blog HERE, ie a mixture of olive oil and water, which I shake vigorously to mix and then use on a cottom pad.
I'm also using Amie "Bright Eyes" very gently eye makeup remover - this is formulated for young (teenage) skin (ahem), but it works just fine on me, haggard skin and all.
I'm absolutely no expert but I can't see any major nasties in there? If you are and can, then tell me in the comments below!
I have read in this review by Get Lippie that Amie can sting the eyes when in use - I haven't found this to be the case - it feels quite cooling and refreshing to me. I guess it varies from person to person though, so definitely consider that... It removes makeup well too. I apply on a cotton pad, and hold over the eye for about thirty seconds, then swipe away. Doing this once or twice leaves eyes clean and smudge free.
I like it. A lot - this is my second bottle.
Amie is available in Boots for £3.99 per bottle
What are your faves - including your "homemades"?

Great post. Lovely to see i am not the only who is using oil to remove makeup. For years and years, I have been using a bi solution eyemakeup remover from gemey (maybelline) but I can only find in france and in certain shops. So I had to find an equivalent.
::: for heavy makeup i use: johnson baby oil (the green one, aloe vera). does not sting but the white of my eyes will become a bit red. vision is not blurred. I would only use this when i know i am not going anywhere afterwards or I am not going to put some makeup straight after.
:::
for light makeup or correcting booboos while putting makeup, i use a cheap thing from SIMPLE, not greasy, perfect to apply makeup again straight after :)
I keep being given high end makeup removers from my girlfriends Mum (she buys a lot of high end skincare so gets lots of freebies) at the moment i've got Paul and Joe, Clarins, Clinique and Lancome. I want to do a test of them against some cheaper removers, but i'm so poor it seems dumb to buy more when i have so many! I like the idea of using something so simple and natural like olive oil but then the thought of rubbing it on my eyes grosses me out.
The only thing that removes all of my eye make up is johnsons baby oil, it is so amazing!
For light make up without eyeliner or for fixing mistakes, I use estee lauders eye make up remover, but I am not fussed on it.
I use Almay Oil-free Eye make-up remover pads. Oil has a habit of really messing with my eyes.
I do, however, use a mixture of Dawn and EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) to clean and nourish my brush bristles. Dawn gently removes germs and make-up with the EVOO nourishes the bristles making them super, super soft.

I love the Liz Earle Cleanser for my eyes. It does not irritate them and removes every speck of makeup :)
I use Boots Botanics eye makeup remover, it's the only thing I've found so far that doesn't irritate the skin around my eyes :)
Thanks for all the lovely comments! Seems I'm not the only oil fan!
@Suzy - I have heard a lot of good things about the Botanics one - do you use the one you have to shake to mix?
@Get Gawjus - I'm testing the Liz Earle right now, and I find it gets everything off my face, but not my mascara - I definitely need a lottle extra help with the panda eyes!
@Kate - is Dawn a washing up liquid?
@Nikki - I love baby oil but heard it was full of mineral oil?
@Lillian Funny Face - I await your reviews! I'd love to see what you think of the Paul and Joe - I'm lemming the bottle!
@Liloo - I used baby oil for ages, but I heard it was bad because it contains mineral oils?
Amie actually changed the formulation of the remover as a result of that post!
I totally ROOLZ at doing stuff. And tings.
@Get Lippie - is it coz you is tha bomb? The formula is fabulous now then - I love the stuff!
MizzWorthy--Dawn is a dish liquid soap. It's strong enough to get rid of the hardest gunk on your dishes but gentle enough to be used on wildlife. Wildlife rescuers use it to get oil off marine animals like penguins and seals. It gets rid of make-up products and build up on brush bristles (both natural and synthetic) but it does strip natural brush bristles of their natural oils so you need to use EVOO to nourish them. EVOO is non-comedogenic so it won't clog your pores. The "recipe" is used by just about every artist I know that uses paintbrushes.
Here's the website for Dawn:

I don't know if you have this brand in the UK. The stuff is amazing. I've used Dawn to get three-day bacon grease off my pans; let me tell you, three-day bacon grease is a PITA to remove.
I use Olive Oil too! Though I also like Clinique's remover. Doesn't sting, though I never actually -buy- it, I have a few of the sample size to use up first.
Hi Mizzworthy, interesting post. I like using the product from Yves Rocher. Cheap and does the job. Also the eye make up remover from Bourjois is excellent as well. Caster oil (available from Boots) is great for removing and is also said to help grow thicker lashes. Baby oil is not a good thing as unless it is a natural line, they usually contain mineral oil. Cheers from Toronto!
I've used olive oil a few times to remove my makeup, though I usually use baby shampoo! Since it's got the no tears formula it doesnt sting much if it gets in the eyes (for me its not the most comfortable thing ever, but its not like HOLY CRAP BURNING) and it gets rid of makeup SO quickly.
I also use Amie Bright Eyes, it doesn't take of waterproof but I have trust oil and rosewater mixture for that! I was so surprised at how gentle and effective it is. I couldn't use any other eye make up remover before as I end up with scaly eyelids!!! Great that you use it too, us "oldies" can use it too!!! xxx
