The latest drugstore foundation on the block is this offering from Max Factor. As a foundation junkie, I often purchase these new drugstore foundies, and then one use later I've remembered why I like high end foundation - the drugstore versions don't usually last well, and I can rarely get a decent colour match. I'd all but given up on drugstore foundation, but seeing raves on BritishBeautyBlogger, as well as HollyYMBB's you tube video made me want to try a slice of the action.
I hot-footed it down to Superdrug where this is on offer at the moment for £9.99 - similar offers are on in Boots and Tesco's at the moment, it normally costs about £14 I believe, and you get 30mls in a bottle
Max Factor claim this is "virtually undetectable even to the professionals. Now Second Skin uses clever multi-tonal pigment technology to smooth over and blend flawlessly into your own natural complexion in seconds. No lines, no traces and perfect in any light; so no-one will ever know it's not all you..."
Packaging wise, this comes in a glass bottle with a hygenic pump (Question - if Drugstore brands can do this, why can't NARS et al?), and looks like this - sorry for the google images, I forgot to take a shot of the product and my batteies are flat now...
So far so good, but the problem is that the foundation only comes in five shades - and definitely won't work, colour wise, on dark or black skin. I was lucky enough to find a decent match - lightest shade (surprise surprise), shade 40, Creamy Ivory, is a really good match for me, it adds a very slight touch of warmth, but this is good - stops me looking corpse like.
I've been applying it with my fingers which is my current favourite method of applying liquid foundation (mainly because washing foundation brushes is a pain, but also because it usually gives streak-free results). I use about two or three pumps for the whole face. which works well for me. It results in a very natural looking low to medium coverage...
Obviously coverage wise, its not going to work if you have a lot of blemishes or very uneven pigmentation, so bear that in mind when deciding if its for you. I have combination/dry skin, and this feels comfortable on my skin - not too drying and not too oil provoking. I'm not sure how well this would work on oily or very dry skin, so check other reviews too if that applies to you.
It lasts well too for a drugstore foundation - I set it in the t-zone with a light dusting of loose powder and it lasts around 8 hours on me - I have to touch up with powder in the t-zone every 3-4 hours, but this is fairly standard for me.
The Max Factor website is currently offering free samples to try, which is well worth a looksie!
Have you tried this? How did you get on with it?
hope this helps!

I bought this a while ago, I posted about it on my blog but can't remember if I did a review or not. At the time I loved it.. was using it daily, untill I bought Colorstay then I started using that. Yesterday though I thought I'd wear it... and god knows what went wrong.. but I ended up looking a right funny shade of orange! I mean I know maybe Ive got a bit paler as the winters approaching, but not that friggin pale! haha.
Fantastic review as always Hunny.

I wish we could get Max Factor here in Canada! I know they are pulling it in the US as well from what have been told. Don't know why though, when I could get it I loved the products!!!
I can't believe they are pulling this brand out of the US - seems crazy when they've just come up with their best ever product! Anyway so glad you liked it - have to say it is a revelation for me not to have rely on a hugely expensive foundation for decent finish. I do apply mine with a sponge and find I get a really, really good finish.
great post as always! i love this foundation, even though i'm not a huge foundation fan, i really love this, it doesn't feel like there's anything there, but the coverage is fabulous!
check out my review of it, http://addictedtoalifeofmaterial.blogspot.com/2009/10/one-girls-loss.html

Thank you so much for this review & the link to a free sample, i have ordered myself one!
I have been contenplating this foundation for a while & this has been really helpful.
Thank you xx
Ive just started using this about a week ago in the lightest shade.
Have to say I've tried a lot of foundations and this has to be at the top of the list.
Really evens out my skin tone.
I also have an oily/combination skin type and it works fine.

this is my favorite foundation at the moment :D. i agree with how it adds warmth to pale skin. im really pale and i find most ivory foundations make me look like a doll!
its a definite thumbs up for me :D
xx
Thank You for the review! I will try this out! I've so many problems with foundations lately - all that I own just dry my skin out and will end up looking horrible.:( This foundation sounds to be quite suitable for me, but I have to use sample first.
I am using this at the moment and really really like it :) xx
I have combination-oily skin and this foundation gives light coverage that's easily built up to medium coverage. I've only tried the samples, "Golden" turned ORANGE on my skin, "Natural" was too dark and too pink. I went to the shop and tried Ivory, it was probably the right lightness but still slightly too pink. For a good foundation I wonder why they don't have more than 5 shades.
What amuses me, some years ago Max Factor's Ivory was spot on, I guess my skintone changes as years goes by.
Veeery tempted to try this out, although knowing my combination skin, it would probably give me a very shiny t-zone after a few hours...
Wish that MF made a foundation with greater coverage too...
Will keep an eye out for it though!
Thanx for a great review!

After a while of wearing it.. i love it! Only problem is on my seriously oily t-zone it does seems to emphasise the shine even with powder on top. So i use it on my cheeks and then bobbi brown on the tzone!
