Bobbi Brown Metallic Cream Shadow

I picked this up in the shade Antique Gold recently, and it has become a real current favourite of mine. This is a dirty gold shade with a lot of shimmer particles... Perfect for Christmas, at least that was my justification...

These shadows are limited edition products from BB, and cost £16 each for 0.12oz/3.5g. When I first picked up this shadow, I have to say I was a little bit unsure about it. First of all, I'm not massively into Bobbi Brown's prescriptive approach to makeup in general. Tales of the "Bobbibots" are legendary, with their rules and regulations, and their "Bobbi says this", "Bobbi says that" doctrines, this irritates me no end - I hate being told how I can or can't wear makeup. Thankfully, I was spared this experience when I went to have a look at these on the counter, although sadly the ever present "overly friendly yet watchful and link selling in case you happen to a mystery shopper" was very much in force, but hey ho - you can't have it all!

This is actually only the third item I have ever purchased from Bobbi Brown(although a further purchase has been made since ahem...). My first purchase was a major fail - I wanted a brow pencil and got sold a creamy liner, which was too light, and too creamy for the purpose I wanted it for, I also have the Bright palette which came out last summer (great palette, but teeny weeny shadows, perfect for travel...).

Anyway, back to the Metallic Cream shadow. I mentioned I was not impressed at first. The reason being, that I thought it looked so beautiful in the pot, but on swatching, it seemed to lack the Oomph I had expected... I kind of consigned this shadow to the "interesting bases" category and started to move on...

I then remembered something that the MUA had mentioned - these particular shadows can be layered over powder shadows...
I subsequently played, and realised that this is where this shade has strength - swatches on the left, show the cream layered over a pale and a dark shadow (NARS hymalayas and mekong...). The cream shadow brings out the tones in both shadows, creating a really pretty effect.

The pots cost £16 each, and these metallic shades are LE, and selling out fast - Antique Gold is very pretty, however there are a LOT of lovely shades to chose from (if you can still find them!)

This also lives up to its "long-wear" claims - once dry, its smudgeproof and wears very well.

I hear you on the bobbi brown rules, I especially hate the light concealer "rule". I have a pro discount from them and I still am not inspired to buy anything. They do have some great products regardless, calypso coral lip and cheek cream is great!

That looks like a great shadow, although I guess you 'd expect it to be a bit more pigmented as you said!
The layered looks however are truly gorgeous, so I guess it can work (beautifully) in that way!
