The Body Shop Bloggers Event (2)

So as I'm sure you are all aware, yesterday was the second lovely bloggers event from the Body Shop - unfortunately, although I took my camera with me, I didn't take many pictures of me with the other bloggers, as I was enjoying chatting too much with them to take snaps - oops!

Oh well, the day got off the an interesting start when I was told my train was delayed by half an hour due to water on the line in Scotland... then when I did get on I ended up sat next to one of those awful business-man types who not only took up both arm rests, but kept glaring at me everytime I moved (Pardonnez - Moi for bleedin well existing!), and also told me to turn my i-pod down... harrrummph! Anyway I managed to get to the event eventually and just about on time, where lots of other lovely bloggers like Oxford Jasmine, Bubblegarm, Rebecca and the lovely Hele. The event was held at "Sketch" A very classy and arty place in central London (apparently the loos were quite something, but I din't visit them!)

The first part of the event (and the most important, without a doubt) was to tell us about the new handcream - "Soft Hands Kind Heart". This product is a major part in their new campaign in conjunction with ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) Which aims to raise awareness of and fight against child trafficking for various forms of exploitation (including sexual) - Oxford Jasmine's excellent youtube video explains the importance of this issue in more eloquent and moving way than I could, so I urge you to click here and watch it. The handcream costs a mere fiver and all profits (£3.45) go to ECPAT - You can also read more about the campaign on the Body Shop website here.

The handcream itself is very nice, fresh smelling and not too greasy with a pleasant scent and sinks into the hands well. Given the improtance of this cause I URGE you to pick this up next time you are near a Body Shop!

Next, we had a really interesting insight into perfume production and the art of the Perfumier - I learnt a few things about top notes (the first scent that hits you, made of volatile oils), Heart Notes (the part you can smell after a couple of minutes, and Base Notes (the more lingering parts of the scent), and how they all work together. This was all part of introducing the new scent range - Love Etc...
I have to say, I love the packaging of this range - very different to the usual Body Shop packaging. Its a lovely fresh "Young" scent, and well worth checking out - as someone who likes to wear different scents a lot, I love being able to pick up reasonably priced scents from places like TBS and next... I generally get expensive perfumes as gifts really...

We were also told about the new organic Skincare line, launching in October - I'm looking forward to testing that out properly too...

Finally, the ever fab Chase Aston gave us a couple of demos - one on a lovely blogger who recieved a smoky eye look, and also demonstrated an amazing 80's look (I have to say, on a personal note, I adore the way Chase casually name drops, peppering his demos with a "Naomi" here and a "Sienna" there - he's fab!). Both looks were done using the new "Precious Pearlescents" collection;

The collection contains two blush trios (cool dusk and warm sunset), which retail at £12.50 each, and two eye trios (moonlight lustre - the green one; and Sundown Glow - the brown one). It has already been mentioned in several posts that the brown eye trio contains a dupe of MACs satin Taupe, but the shadows are very well pigmented!

The collection also contains five metallic eye pencils in some lovely shades - aqua, peacock green, gunmetal, bronze and aubergine. The aqua shade is looking lovely to me - I have a definite weakness for blue eye-liners...

We were also treated to ten of the new lipshades which have come out now - there are some shades which really really appeal to me here - that neon pink is hot, and the fuscia on the far right is lovely - it reminds me a little of MAC big bow (from the HK collection). There is also a lovely orange, and there are also nudes to chose from as well...

Apparently there is going to be a blogger contest to create an 80's look using these products, and I might have a little try at that - whaddya reckon?

Thanks to the Body Shop for another lovely event!
