Jean Paul Gaultier - Classique Fragrance

I was recently emailed and asked if I wanted to try Jean Paul Gaultier Classique. Ooh I wouldn't mind, sez me, expecting a small tester to plop through the letter box. I was thinking if I liked it I could always add it to the list for the Mister to distribute to all-comers who were wanting gift ideas for me...

I'd never tried fragrances from JPG's range before, and really wasn't sure what to expect... Memories of Eurotrash flooded my noggin. I bravely tried to drive them away, as, frankly, I could do without the flashbacks and nightmares...

The other images that come to mind are pointy bra's....

... and saucy adverts....
I was very surprised then, when a large box arrived, containing a 100ml bottle of Eau De Parfum, natural spray... The pink tin container is a lovely contrast with the beautifully feminine bottle... If I was arty, I might say this was the perfect juxtaposition. But I'm not. And I don't really know what that means anyway. So I wont.

Anyway, enough of this nonsense... whats the perfume like?

This is an unashamedly "floral" scent...
  • Top Notes - Rose
  • Heart/Middle Notes - Orchid
  • Base Notes - Vanilla and Softwood.
So, a few things strike me when I use this. The first is, how "hand friendly" the bottle is... now before you click off, thinking I've finally lost the plot (it will happen sooner or later...), what I mean is that the bottle just seems to fit into my hand... There is no awkwardness, or fumbling, it just fits nicely. A small point, but worth mentioning.

Secondly, the fragrance itself makes me feel all grown up and sophisticated, and very, very feminine. This will either appeal to you or not. It appeals to me as a "night-time" scent, rather than a day time scent.
This is purely because in my line of work, the last thing I want to do is be casting an air of the "Femme Fatale" around me to all and sundry. Nurses have a kinky enough reputation without that... Heaven forbid. This is lovely when I'm off duty, going out for a meal, attending parties (I wish) etc, rather than bombing about doing community visits. Obviously, though, if I worked in a different environent then this might be more suitable...

Thirdly, and possibly most importantly. This is probably the longest lasting fragrance I have ever used. I don't know what it is with my skin, but perfume seems to wear off within an hour or two. Not the case with this one - it lasts the whole night long. I actually sprayed this on once while wearing a scarf. A couple of weeks later, I pulled the scarf out again, and it still smelled faintly of it... result!

If you like your florals, I'd recommend checking this one out. Its available pretty much everywhere. Department stores, online, etc ect... It retails for £38.50 at Boots.com for 50mls...

I really like it. Very grown up as you say and it was so different to all my other perfumes. It was a sad day when my bottle finished - which I loved the shape of too.

@VexInTheCity - Glad I'm not the only one who thought wierdly about the bottle shape. Not in a kinky way, hasten to add...

You've reminded me how much I used to love this perfume. I think I need to repurchase! I used to layer this over the (original) Sanctuary range and it smelt lovely... very sophisticated and grown-up as you say.
