Self Tanning for Beginners 3 - Sun Labs Strictly Faces

Soooo, this is a facial fake tanner, and probably the one I was most nervous about trying... I mean a botched leg application is easy enough to hide, but an orange streaky face... well thats a whole other ball game!

This fake tan has been sitting in my "products to be reviewed" drawer, giving me dirty looks, for weeks. I recieved it to test from a PR at the same time as I recieved the sun labs spray tan I reviewed here. I've looked the facial tanner up online, and it sells for £25 for 80mls on the sun labs website

Product Blurb - "Introducing our new anti-ageing fake tan for the face! Sun Laboratories Strictly Faces Self Tan Lotion is a new plateau for face tanning. Our sunless tanning formula contains a combination of the highest quality all natural ingredients to tan your face and proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Designed to give your face the firming qualities of a tight and toned complexion, while simultaneously producing a natural sun kissed glow. This fake tan product for the face provides healthier and younger looking skin and it hydrates your skin leaving it extremely smooth. Strictly Faces Self Tan Lotion is the sunless tan lotion for the face, designed for those who want nothing but the deepest and darkest natural looking fake tan attainable without the sun."

Now given that I was given the "Dark" formula to test, I was rather fearful that I might end up looking a bit strange - While Jordan may be able to carry off that tangerine tinged look, there was no way I was prepared to. So it was with great trepidation I made my first application... And I was vastly relieved the next day to wake up and not look orange. In fact I was surprised to see that I could probably carry off another application quite easily. So I reapplied that night, and woke up the next day with a lovey golden, non streaky and non orange face. The product lasts about 3-4 days between reapplications (unless you do a face scrub, obviously).

The product boasts anti-ageing properties, but I can't say whether it made any massive difference to the aging of my skin - I can say however it felt nice on my skin, just like a light moisturiser, and I didn't need any extra moisturising products on my face - If you moisturise your face first it will pale down the colour result slightly, so if you are scared of how dark it will go, this might be a good way to ease in...

The product itself is a chocolate coloured gel-cream. This means it is easy to blend as you have a colour guide. I used a pea sized amount for my face, and then a slightly smaller amount mixed in with a simple facial moisturizer on the neck to avoid that "hello, I have a different coloured face and neck - can you tell I have used fake tan?" look. This worked well for me, and gave a natural result. As you rub it in it sinks in well and kind of "dries into" the skin. If you have used Korres tinted moisturiser, its similar to that in this respect.

The product also has a better smell than most fake tans - this one smells like a kind of marzipan/amaretto hybrid, with a bit of cherry thrown in. Far more pleasant than the usual cuury/biscuit scent, but still, some might find it a little overpowering. To me though almost any scent is preferable to the fake tan smell... Its still strong enough for other people to smell, so I'd recommend a night time application.

Having never used a facial tanner before this, I can't really compare it with other products, however I'm really pleased with the results and I also think the bottle would last a long time - I reckon a good 4-6 months with use once or twice a week...

Great product - although budget wise might be a little pricy for some.

Hope this helped!

Don't forget to pass on any experiences with this tan and any other recommendations!

would have loved to have seen a before and after! Facial tanners are always the scariest to try! I understand completely! I have used a lot of bad one's before I found some that I loved!!

@NancyPower - I agree about the before and after shots lol - I had to go with the impulse to use the tan or I'd have never done it, and I didn't have the foresight to take a before pic! xxx
