Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair.

So, this product has stood the test of time and has been around for thirty years apparently - it has recently been relaunched with the addition of chronolux technology, which we'll come to later (pens and pads at the ready for that - Its gonna get "sciency"!)

I was recently sent a little sample bottle of this - similar to the sizes you sometimes get free with magazines etc. This was meant to last a week, however I can safely say that a little of this goes a long way - I've been using this at night for about a month now and I'd barely used a quarter of the bottle, so despite its hefty price tag (£36 for 30ml or £49 for 50ml), I'd expect a bottle to last a long time! The product was sent with no press info for once - a good sign in my book, when companies dont try to dictate the content of blog posts lol... I also enjoy doing a bit of research myself from time to time!

The Science Bit...
The theory is that environmental assaults (pollution, stress, smoke, sunlight and even stress) cause DNA damage, which in turn causes ageing. Now we all know that skin does much of its repairing and renewing at night while we sleep - the old adage of "beauty sleep" is definitely true!

Apparently though, our skin cells contains clock genes - if these are "in sync", then this night time repair occurs optimally. However, the problem is that environmental assaults mean that the clock genes are frequently knocked out of sync, so aging occurs. The Advanced night repair contains "chronolux" technology, which sets to work on clock genes, synchronising them, and therefore making the skins natural defenses against ageing more effective.

So does it actually work?
I've seen reviews on you tube making claims that this serum heals blemishes overnight, and other such miracles. While it didn't do that for me, I can say it did seem to speed up the process significantly - After a blemish I often get a red area on the skin which can take a few weeks to disappear completely. I noticed while using this serum that such marks were reduced within about a week to ten days. My skin also feels very smooth and soft in the morning, and I definitely look quite "well rested"

The serum is also easily absorbed too, and easy to use - I'd say I apply 3-5 drops at night (thats a rough estimate - the proper sized product comes with a dropper, which my sample does not have...) prior to my night cream (Clarins Multi Active).

As for long term anti-ageing results, I think this would only be possible to really assess over the course of a few months, so I'm not really prepared to say yay or nay to this. So far though I've been impressed enough to say I'm likely to pick up a bottle when my little sample runs out. This also comes in an eye cream, which I'm interested in trying when my current eye cream runs out too...

Have any of you tried this or any other products from the range? I'm feeling that I've neglected to look at the Estee Lauder skincare products for a long time - for example, the Daywear range sounds right up my alley - SPF 30 and antioxidants? Fab!

I used the eye cream a while back. I loved the bottle. It felt like it contained silicone - very slick. Couldn't say if it was anti-ageing as I didn't have any wrinkles, but it's an ok eye cream :)

I have a sample of this and have been using for the past month or so. I agree with everything you said -- it feels great to put on and does minimize blemishes. As for long term benefits, we'll see but I'm open to trying it out.

I've been using some samples of Estee Lauder skincare that I received as part of Gift with purchases and I actually really enjoy the products. I might have to spring for full size bottles sometime soon.

I hve been using the eye cream for about 2 weeks now (going to be doing a review on that soon) and it is excellent! I have hardly been getting any sleep recently and I havnt had any major bags in the morning. If I don't sleep I look like someone has punched me in the eyes and I havnt got that at all! I would definately recommend it!

It will be so handy when the baby comes! Lol x

How's EL's customer service in UK?

Unfortunately I had some very unpleasant experiences with their Sales Assistants in Australia. Some friends who live in various parts of OZ have also encountered dodgy services from various counters - it seems like a general "standard" of service you get from EL counters. We were so fed up with the (non)service all of us refused to buy any EL product anymore, we rather spend our money on other brands that provide good service. EL has some lovely products, pity they don't seem to train the SAs well... so, yeah, it has put me off trying their products, good as they might be... :(

I got a mini sample of the EL pore minimiser with a purchase, its not something i would have tried otherwise but im really impressed with it. Definitely thinking of looking further into their skincare products.

And the tiny sample bottles last for ages!

@Unicorn - the real test is, did you repurchase? xxx

@Lipstickrules - I actually think its a brand I've been ignoring for far too long!

@Nikki - great, I look forward to the review!

@Sherry - that sounds like a lot!

@Music - sounds like you have not had a great time at the counters! As I mentioned, the brand isn't something I have a lot of products on, but I def agree, if you get crap service, take your money elsewhere!

@Gemma - lol - of all the skincare in all the world lol - how wierd!

@Shell - I agree, I personally don't mind shelling out for something that works - its when you spend a fortune and the product runs out quick/does a bad job I get annoyed!

@Lizzclare - would love to know whatr you think ot the perfectionist serum! xxx

I was given three mini samples to try, as a combined skin regime: Advanced Night Repair, Idealist pore minimizer and Revelation Age-resisting creme. The samples were very small so they only lasted a few days. But I must say that my skin was glowing (in a good way) when I was using them. Apart from the cream that is clearly not for my super oily skin, the other two felt really nice. Having such an oily skin I can't bare a night cream, whereas the serum was perfectly fine. As soon as I find a moisturizer that finally suits me, then I will have found my staple products for face!

@Persephae - I know what you mean about night creams - I love Clarins multi active night lotion as it's really light - I'd see if you can pick up a sample!

I used this product years ago when I worked for the company, after I saw a demo where they cut an apple in half and put the Advanced Night Repair on the cut side of one half, which in turn resisted browning from oxidation- phenomenal. It's also great for sun burnt skin- I've used it on burns so bad you could see broken capillaries and it healed it so well I didn't peel!

Keep in mind though, the serum itself is really more of a preventative- it doesn't have ingredients in it to reverse aging, though it does have Hyaluronic Acid, which will plump up fine lines a bit. We always used to say that you can't tell it's worked until 5 years after you've started using it (because you won't have aged! :)

Great product though, I have actually been thinking about picking up a bottle since it's so soothing & my skin has be ultra-stressed lately. One more thing on the list!

@Jessica - Thanks for sharing your experiences with the product - I'm all about prevention at the moment lol - so I'll let you know in 5 years!
