Let me Introduce you to my Friend PAAAIIIINNN!

Here we have a method of hair removal that Mr T himself would approve of!

The lovely and fragrant Cosmetic Candy sent me this impliment of torture hair removal devicea while back after I twittered about my interest and she offered me one to try, as she had made some kind of job lot order on eBay...

What am I prattling on about? This;
I have no idea what the formal classification or name is for this tool... to be honest I'm not sure I want to. For post purposes I shall name it a Hair Stick...

I got interested in this device when I saw a few people on YouTube mentioning that it was an alternative to threading for the old Magnum PI tache...
Don't even pretend you don't know what I mean - especially if you have dark hair! We all turn into a be-tashed babe on a monthly basis... Whaddya mean its just me?!

Now, I'm a massive fan of threading - especially for the brows, and for other facial hair its an occasional necessity, but it's kinda embarassing to have to walk around in public afterwards with a but red upper lip that screams "I've just been de-fuzzed" to all and sundry... So I liked the idea of being able to confine that experience to within my own home...
See - there's even a picture on the packaging showing someone being threaded... I have no idea what the hell that white stuff is all over her face though...
Up close, the Hair Stick looks like a big happy spring with lovely orange sunshine-y handles...
The girl on the packaging looks like she's having great fun using it too - see how happy and smiley she looks. Maaan - I was almost looking forward to it!

Then I got it home and tried it. I followed the happy smiley pictures of the packaging lady, and rolled the spring lightly accross the skin whilst twiddling the handles. All of a sudden I heard distant screams. Then I realised they were coming from me.

Good lord this thing HURTS! Now, I have a good high pain threshold, and think nothing of waxing getting a tattoo, a piercing, or anything along those lines. But my God, this thing was truly spawned in the bowels of hell. Does it work? Yes it removes hair. But in the most eye and nose wateringly painful way I have ever experienced...

Back to the threading salon for me!

Ha, when I saw a pic of this on some other blog I was thinking "gawd, it must be awfully painful..." - and here you come with your review! I won't be trying, so.

I learned how to thread while locked up. Its not that hard to do yrself. But alot easier to have someone else do it or do it to someone else. I can only imagine how this thing feels.

Lol! So funny!

I saw that contraption a while back and I was intrigued! Sounds painful!

Have you tried threading your own upper lip at home? I do mine all the time and it works really well. x

I remember when this idea was mentioned a few years back on a forum, i promptly bought it and felt the same as you. I get threaded/waxed but its never as painful as this was. I remember the ladies on the forum would say they would watch tv and do this...i can't fathom how..my eyes tear in seconds!

My guess is the white stuff must be talcum powder, to absorb any moiture on the skin.

I have one of these, and I've found that it is weirdly less painful if you rip out a whole bunch of hairs at once, opposed to one or two. If you're not getting enough ripped out, it's as painful as individually tweezing every single hair :(

Plus, you'll get used to it after a couple of rolls :P

I use Boots' Facial Hair Removing Cream for my 'tache, it takes 5 minutes and it doesn't hurt! That thing looks like a medieval torture device.

Thanks for all the comments! I so need to learn to thread my own "facial hair" - it would save me bomb, and then I could spend tghat on foundation... Hmmm!

This looks scary. Its bascially looks like you are ripping out all your hairs by trapping them in a spring!

It did make me laugh though when I read it.

Looks so strange, I'd never waste my money on it because it doesn't do eyebrows.

This made me lol...maybe the white stuff on her face is numbing cream?...I really want to buy some numbing cream...I am such a wuss!

OUCH! I heard that this thing is quite painful, and also that it can give you those under the skin bumps after the hairs have been removed... Careful! xxx

eheh. I think the white stuff is powder. supposed to reduce friction of the thread against your skin. :) think that it makes it easier to thread too.

Actually I like threading, pain or lack thereof depends on the skill of the technician, and it is cheap! cost over here in Malaysia is about USD1.5 to do the brows.

Im thinking...I'll give it a miss =) (Love the review btw - hilarious).
