New Sleek Shimmer Blushes...

I was at the Trafford centre today with my friend, and we popped in to Superdrug where a new brow threading service has just set up - They were running a 50% off promo so I got threaded and my friend got her lashes tinted for a bargaintastic £5 each!

Whilst I was waiting for my friend, I had a quick stroll up and down the cosmetic aisle, and noticed that they had the stand out for the new Sleek shimmer blushes... Frustratingly there were no actual blushers out though, which was immensely annoying as they were very pretty!

I had a quick swatch non-the-less, and took a sneaky iPhone picture to try to show you though...

As I say, this is an iPhone pic, so quality of the picture is not amazing. I was on the other hand pretty impressed with the blushers - they are very smooth to the touch and almost creamy, which is rare in a drugstore blusher...

They are really well pigmented too - the swatches above were taken from one quick swipe across the product, so you can see there is a decent payoff too. I also think the colours are really pretty...

Rose Gold, swatched on the left, is a soft peachy shade with a gold sheen, a dead ringer for NARS Orgasm.
Pomegranate, swatched in the middle is a pink shade, with a silvery sheen and was probably my favourite of the three. Loved it.
Sunrise, swatched on the right is a darker more teracotta shade with a gold sheen - great for darker skin tones I'd say. 

I'll be picking up rose gold and pomegranate when they eventually do put them on the shelves...

Speaking of Superdrug I was most impressed today by the absence of the awful music they play in there today... Dunno if you noticed but they went through a phase of playing those terrible songs that are kind of covers of current songs in the charts. I think it's to avoid paying royalties or something? Legal experts let me know! 
Anyway, that music was DIRE. But they have started one of those in store radio staions now - I was most pleased to hear the proper version of Plan B, not some awful cover...

Sleek Kajal Eyeliner

I've heard Kajal liners mentioned on several blogs before, and always wondered whether they would work for me, so I was pleased to be sent one of these new liners from Sleek Makeup recently to review. 

They are available in two shades - black and purple, and I was sent the purple shade to try. 

They are the original "self-sharpening eye liner", ie as you use it the point wears down evenly so it stay pointed...

This has a really soft smudgy waxy texture... not surprising given that it contains the following;

I really love the shiny wet look of this product when swatched and applied too - I was expecting this product to look and feel drier and be more intense, but the waxy shininess makes it wearable and blendable too...

The end of the liner does not have a very precise "sharp" tip, such as you would expect from a pencil liver for example, but in a way this adds to the casual effect this product gives..

It wears well on the waterline and is also a great product to tightline with, and seems a bit less tickly than using a pencil or brush. The soft smudgy texture means this can be blended out as a shadow in its own right, and also means it would work well as a base for powder shades. 

For this super easy look I lined and tightlined the eye with the kajal, swiped it above and below the lashlines and smudged out with a cotton bud. 

The product lasts really well on me, however if you have fine lines under the eyes, you may want to set the product under the eye with a powder as I did notice it melted into fine lines after a few hours. Nothing a quick finger swipe didn't sort out though!

Sleek MakeUp Bohemian Palette

The latest offering from Sleek is a new palette called the Bohemian palette... apparently this was inspired by "antique trinkets, vintage finds and Sienna Miller". Now, when I read the bit about Sienna Miller, I almost turned "agin" this palette on principle - I find the woman so pippin annoying... Luckily, this palette is good enough for me to forgive the Sienna reference...

Sleek have changed up the packaging on this on, with a cardboard cover, and a white palette - Personally, I love the cardboard cover, it is a lot easier to open, and looks a lot more attractive than the usual plastic carton they come in. I love the artwork too...

Lots of people have commented on other blogs that they are not massively keen on the white palette - from an aesthetic point of view, I can appreciate it might not be to everyones taste, however from a practical point of view, having different coloured palettes makes it a LOT easier to pick out the palette you want from all the black ones already in the range...

The palette contains a mostly matte shades, with three shimmer shades;

These are the four shadows on the left side - a mossy green, copper, cranberry red, and a flesh coloured matte shade.

The middle four shadows are all matte, as are the four on the far right of the palette;

The other matte palette available from Sleek (the Chaos palette) was previously the one palette I was disappointed with, as the matte shadows seemed to have poor colour payoff and were difficult to blend - Sleek have really improved the quality of the matte shades in this, and I found this palette really easy to work with. 

The shades included in the palette lend themselves to a variety of different looks from neutral to smoky to bright... rather than swatch all the shades, I got a bit carried away and tried to recreate the look illustrated on the box...

Here is my (admittedly quite crap) attempt - I had fun trying!

I used loads of the colours in the palette, and I thing they are really well pigmented - the palette is well worth it at £4.99 for 12 shadows.

Sleek MakeUp Contour Kit

 

This product was sent to me for review purposes - I am neither affiliated with Sleek, nor paid for these reviews. My reviews are always honest and based on my own experiences and skintype etc - I would always recommend that you read as many reviews as possible on a product prior to making a purchase. 

I am rather late with getting this review online, which should not in any way be interpreted as a slur on this product, which is actually really rather good!

The contour kit retails at £5.99  in Superdrug. It comes in the usual Sleek packaging - something like a mini version of their palettes. The compact has a good mirror in the lid, and also comes with instuctions on how to contour the cheekbones, nose and eye area - very useful if you are contouring newbie, or just even want a little guidance;

 

The kit contains two powders - a matte brown shade for contouring, and a creamy shade with fine shimmer for highlighting;

The kit is available in three shades - light, medium and dark (I have the Light kit), so Sleek are once again providing for a wide range of skin tones - something other drugstore brands could learn a lot from!

Upon swatching, I was a little concerned that the contour shade might be too dark or warm for my pale skin;

However when applied with a light hand and blended well, as you would with any contour powder the powder produced a natural but effective contour. The highlighting shade was also very pretty on the skin;

 

The powders wore well on the skin - I applied this prior to a house-hunting, and food shopping extravaganza of an afternoon, and it was still present that evening, which is impressive for a drugstore powder product. 

Verdict - A great product for the price, ideal for beginners and more experienced makeup fans alike. Works best when applied lightly and built up slowly. 

New Offerings From Sleek MakeUP... Swatches etc included!

After something of a haiatus on the palette front from Sleek lately (I like their thinking - absence makes the heart grow fonder!), they are back with three new additions to the range - the sunset palette, the graphite palette and a new range of blushers....

I was sent the graphite palette and a blusher from the range which in spite of postal strikes etc, somehow managed to find its way to my door yesterday. Upon hearing that another palette was out (via the magic of twitter), I popped to my nearest Superdrug to investigate and picked up the sunset palette.

As always the Sleek palettes are great value for money at £4.88, each contains 12 shades of mineral based colour, and (Chaos palette aside) are well pigmented - great especially if you like shimmer colours.

The Graphite palette was a massively pleasant surprise when I opened it - the smoky eye is never really out of fashion, but is especially massive this season - This palette is (ahem) "bang on trend" as they say - a great range of greys, black, a metallic blue and two purples (including a rather fab royalish hue), and even includes a couple of great highlighter shades;

I was also sent a blusher from the new range - simply called "BLUSH". The range has five shades - Pixie pink, Flushed, Flamingo, Sahara and Coral. I recieved "Flushed", a deep raspberry pink shade;
Blusher fans may recall the recent range released by Barry M, was often criticised for the cheap packaging and not great brush - Sleek have surpassed them on this front - the packaging is externally similar to the palettes, the lid has a decent mirror, and there is no crappy applicator included (now they just need to leave the sponge applicators out of the eye palettes hey? Who's with me?), which is a very positive thing.

I checked out the other shades in the range today at superdrug, and loved the look of pixie pink and flamingo - both vivid pinks as the names suggest.

I have not really used this blusher for long enough to comment on its longevity etc, but it was easy to apply, and easy to blend - it's also a bargain at £3.29 for 8g of product!

I picked up the Sunset Palette today - something a bit different to the usual winter palettes, but in turn, this means the palette will be useable after the party season, and beyond.

As you can see, this one is very pink/red/orange based (sunset colours surprisingly!), together with a blue and a black - again colours are shimmers, and extremely pretty when swatched...

...Although, sadly once again, my camera has managed to wash out a lot of the intensity... The highlighter colours are fairly similar in both palettes, but the two colours on the bottom left are very reminiscent of MAC's Star Violet, the orange and yellow are also very pretty and well pigmented, which sadly this picture fails to communicate.

I'd definitely try to check these palettes out before they sell out - even if you don't like all the shades, at £4.88, you can't really go wrong.

As always with mineral based shadows though, these can be a little crumbly and fragile - so take care with them!

New Product...Sleek MakeUP pout polish

Oooh... another month, another lovely product from Sleek MakeUP. A bit of a change from the usual monthly palette, but fab nontheless... This month we have their Pout Polish.

I was sent the product in the shade "Electro Peach", which in the pot looks exactly like it sounds - really vibrant glossy jelly peach. It comes in four shades - Electro Peach, Pink Cadillac, Chocolate Kiss and Perfect Plum. They are available now at Superdug on special offer - 2 for £6.99. They normally cost £3.91 each, and you get 10g of product.

These are very very similar to MAC tinted lip conditioners, but for a fraction of the price - they appeal for exactly the same reasons - they condition the lips while adding a hint of colour. Perfect for lazy days and "no-makeup makeup". They are also surprisingly well pigmented - when I first opened mine I sloshed it on haphazardly with my fingers expecting it to be very light on colour, but I was so wrong... I ended up looking like a child after a run in with a jam sandwich. Following this, I realised a mirror was handy to have whn applying. This may just be this shade, but normally the quality of Sleek is fairly uniform, so I'm expecting the same from Pink Cadillac, which I plan on picking up...

The product has SPF15, which is great for everday wear, especially in the autumn. They also smell divine - they contain shea butter, almond, jojoba and avocado oils - to me they smell like a mix of almond and coconut - Bonus!

Sleek MakeUp Curious Palette...

Its always lovely to see Sleek MakeUp's new LE palettes, and the new curious palette is no excaption... I realise this post is coming a few days late, as I was sent this palette about ten days ago, but I feel having to go on ghastly night duty is an excuse enough!

The palette contains a nice mix of colours, making it versatile - The blacks and silvers make for a simple smoky eye, and there are some nice neutrals and bronzes in there, as well as some lovely vivid blues, greens and yellows, which appeal to the colour junkie in me.

As you can see from the swatches below, the shadows are well pigmented, and there is a nice range of colours - the colours are all quite shimmery and sheeny;



I actually really love the bronze and golden colours in the palette, and the purple also appeals - the only colour I didn't get on with particularly well, is the yellow, which needs to be really packed on over a decent base in order to produce a vivid result - the rest of the palette is a bargain, and these are always well worth picking up - 12 shadows for less than £5, and these are excellent quality for the price.

The shadows have a very soft texture, which is likely in part to be due to them being mineral shadows. In one way, this makes them very easy to work with - the brush picks up a lot of product easily and they are easily blendable. The downside to this is thay can produce a lot of fallout... easily solved by doing face makeup last and for the price, this isn't too disturbing...

I had a little play today and came up with a couple of looks, to see how versatile the palette is...

First up a bit of a smokey eye with a purple accent in the inner corner (I can't have that purple and yellow in front of me and not play with them...)

I also HAD to play with the blues, yellow and greens and came up with this colourful one...

I looked really interesting with one blue eye and one smokey eye, I must say lol!

Anyone else got this palette? How do you use yours? I personally think this is a lovely smokey eye palette, both neutral/dark and also colourful etc...

Sleek MakeUP Safari Palette - FOTD/Review.

I was very kindly sent this palette to try out - I have blogged before about how I like most of these palettes (the real exception being one that was out about a year ago, which was all matte shadows - the colours had very poor payoff, I actually threw it away!). I am still actually looking for the last LE palette, the Neon palette as it just keeps selling out of every Superdrug I go to!

Sleek MakeUP is a range that covers a wide range of skin tones; they are well know among the blogging/you tube community for their palettes, but they also have other great products - I love highlighters, and their liquid illuminator is a drugstore fave of mine...

The Sleek palettes are available in Superdrug stores, and this particular one was released on the 8th July 2009, and as usual its a steal at £4.88, for 12 mineral based shadows...

As you can see, you get a good mix of colours, and it makes putting looks together fairly foolproof... There are a mixture of matte (matte black, yellow, nude brown and green) and shimmer/satin type textures in the palette.

The shadows are all well pigmented considering the price, and they have soft smooth texture - some might find this slightly too soft - the shadows can be damaged easily (the black in my palette was actually partially damaged in the post to me), but this is a minor problem considering the price!

As I was off to Chester Zoo for the day with my other half on a very rare Weekend off, what better opportunity to have a play? Safari... Zoo... Geddit!? This is look I came up with this morning... Obviously I like to play with colours etc, but I think the palette is diverse enough to create a range of looks from subtle to smoky to more dramatic...

Products used (for those who want to know!);

Face - Illamasqua Matte Primer; RMK Creamy Foundation, Illamasqua loose powder in shade LP005 (the pink one!)

Eyes - Sleek MakeUP safari I-divine palette; Urban decay brow box; Rimmel sexy curves intense black mascara, Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner in Intense Olive.

Cheeks - Illamasqua bronzing duo in glint/writhe to sculpt and shape; Illamasqua powder blushers in Lover and Posses (the yellow one!)

Lips - Illamasqua sheer lipgloss in Torture

I am also pleased to report that the look lasted the day, despite heyfever induced episodes of watery-eyes! A great value palette that offers good colour payoff...

I was also sent a couple of their new long lasting lipglosses - Wonderlasts - these are still undergoing rigorous MizzWorthy tests, so stay tuned for a review of those soon!
