...My hair that is!
Yep, you guessed it, I used the new dye kit from John Frieda, so I thought I'd reward your never ending patience for my increasingly cheesy puns with my thoughts on it, and what it was like to use step-by-step...
So first of all, the product looks like this;
Inside the pack you get a developer, colour, conditioner, foam dispenser, instructions and a pair of black rubber gloves;
Already happy with two things from the offset here - first of all, the dye is applied to dry hair - massive relief as it's such a pain having to wet and towel dry hair for dying , it just adds so much time and faff to the process.
Secondly, the gloves are nice and close fitting, they are not those awful ones which look like they are made from a plastic bag. This makes application SO much easier. In addition to this, they are black, so you can do your best MJ impression if you want.
Once mixed (an easy process, involving pouring the colourant into the developer and tipping the bottle back and forth a few times) the dye looks like this;
To dispense the product you simple squeeze the bottle and it foams through the special dispenser;
So before application, my hair looked like this...
Apologies for the kinks etc - I applied this after work and I generally have my hair tied up for going on visits etc. But the last time I coloured it was a few weeks ago now - it has started to look quite washed out, patchy and a little bit brassy in places.
The application itself was really easy. You can get it on the hair really quickly and it spreads through really easily. Because it's easier to handle than a liquid dye, you don't feel like you are damaging your hair just by applying it - I know in the past I've rooted about with combs and stuff through wet dye soaked hair to try to make sure everything was covered, and it feels like you are tearing your hair to bits.
Once on you can get your hair into one a topknot and mine stayed in that style without the use of bobbles, grips etc. Any excess dye around the hairline etc was really easily wiped away with a makeup wipe.
I was also interested to see that there was more than enough product in the kit for my (shoulder length) hair - In fact for the first time ever, with a home hair dye, there was product left over;
I then waited 25 minutes for the dye to take (no annoying dripping or dribbling of dye occurred) and rinsed out. This was really easy to rinse actually - another big plus, as you usually have to spend about 15 minutes rinsing the dye out, only to find you still manage to stain towels etc... This rinsed out quickly and cleanly.
I then applied the conditioner for a couple of minutes, rinsed and dried.
This was the result;
So, although not a redical colour change, I think you can see in the pics that the colour looks a lot more even, the roots match the ends and the brassiness in the more washed out areas has been dealt with. It also covered up my smattering of grey hairs well.
Oh, and there were no patchy bits! And no clothing catastrophes either...
I was also pleased with the fact that my hair still looked shiny, and the colour doesn't seem to look too flat. The end colour is also pretty close to the shade on the box as well - I've tried a lot of colours like this, where this hasn't been the case. At the event we were advised that the best way to get natural results was to stich to within two shades lighter or darker than your "base" or natural shade. In my case I reckon this shade is actually pretty darn close to my natural shade, so when the full range is out I'll maybe tinker with a red from the range or something.
Since applying the colour I have washed my hair again, and there was no excess dye left in my hair from the first try at rinsing, so the shade has not lost any colour or intensity.
Before trying this I wasn't really sure what to expect - I liked the idea of a foam method, but I was pretty sure I'd be the "fool" to disprove the "foolproof" claims about this colour. But I'm pleased to say I was wrong. The product was easy to use, and gave great results with no dye disasters.
A big thumbs up - I'll definitely repurchase this, and will probably try other shades in the range when it is fully available.
So no need for that tank of piranha's or mad lazer gun... not this time anyway!

So glad it worked so well for you... Espcecially after seeing the model do it so well too! I feel sooo tempted to ombre my hair now :D
@Shortiee31 - Hi lovely! Thanks for your comment... Ombre hey? I hope that works! Seriously it was fab - I'm well pleased with how it turned out. It was lovely to meet you the other day too! xx
You look great Jen, not only with that color but that haircut with the fringe is perfect for you :-)
I wonder if we'll have this product here. I actually deal pretty well with my professional L'Oreal hair dye (once you know how to work with it and pick a color, it's really not that hard) but trying novelties is always fun, especially when they're easier to use :-)
Firstly, never stop the puns.
Secondly, I'm impressed at how well that worked, I remember my cousin used a foam dye in America a few years ago and it was a right disaster, some areas had too much colour and others had nothing. I'm glad this works, I'll let my mum know becuase she's always looking for a fuss free dye.
I tried this saturday night. I went for Deep Cherry Red.
I was really pleased with the product too and like you said, the fact it is used on dry hair made it so much easier.
love the foam and there was no drippage on the carpet x x
(a first) :-)
Your hair looks lovely and you really suit the fringe xx
I really want to try this, but after saturating my grey hairs in henna (lush caca brun) I will have to wait aeons to apply because henna + dye = disaster. Thanks for the post, makes the process look not to much of a pfaff.
Aargh you didn't pick the blonde!!! You still look like Kylie in that pic though haha. Very nice hair, you suit the fringe so well xxxx
That's a lovely colour on you, so glossy too. I ADORE your fringe btw, it suits you so, so much!! xx
