Go Go Gadget!

Beauty gadgets come and go, and vary in their levels of success... Lash curlers for example, are one gadget that stayed the distance. Indeed they are now firmly ensconced in many a makeup lovers regular routine (mine included!).

Heated lash curlers though, are a different beast entirely. If I even imagine using one, my head is filled with images of singed eyelashes, grazed corneas, and on a really bad day a full on horror image involving burst eye balls and vitreous fluid spurting everywhere.

Apologies if you are eating or about to eat...

So anyway, what I'm trying to say, in the midst of all this blood and gore, is that I take beauty gadgets with a pinch of salt. Those that actually work tend to be very expensive or difficult to get hold of, so it was with some trepidation that I agreed to try the newest gadget on the block (or the supermarket shelf at least).

I give you the Spin Pin from Goody.

Deceptively simple, these spiral pins come in packs of two, and are about the size of a large bobby pin.

To use them you simply gather your hair into a ponytail, twist it into a bun, and then spiral them into your hair, as if you are opening a lovely bottle of vino at the end of a hard day. Spiral one in from the top, and one in from the bottom and that's all there is to it. Very fine hair might not even need two pins. Just take care not to cross the pins, or it might be a bit of a job to remove them!

I tested these out before I had my hair cut, and they are great for a quick casual look, and they hold really well too. They are also non damaging to the hair - the ends of the pins have a  bobble, similar to the ones you get on regular hair grips, so as long as that stays on then you're good. They also work well on different hair types - I tried this on my sister who has very curly (fabulous) hair which is a lot thicker than mine, and it held her mane in check well.
I think the best things about these is the fact that they are just so quick. They create a casual updo in minutes, whereas before I'd have been shoving about 30 hairgrips into my barnet to get a similar result.

These are now available in ASDA too, unfortunately being the disorganised rambling fool I am at times, I can't find any pricing information, but I'd expect them to retail at around the £4 mark...

Have you tried these? And also, just for fun, what's the best or worst beauty gadgets you've tried?

Hmm these sound good. I have longish/thick hair and it hardly ever holds withough 1000s of grips.

Will they retail in other places othr than ASDA? I find it difficult to gt to ASDA...

@Computergirl - for really long thick hair you might need two packs - I'm not really sure if they will be available anywhere else, but I have seen a lot of goody products in Boots so it may be worth looking there... Also try places like home bargains!

At first I thought they were eyelash curlers and was thinking how painful they would be but as they're for hair..the idea seems brilliant.

My hair is curly by nature and I sometimes wish I could straighten it and then inject a bit of the curl back in but that is nigh on impossible, if only they made a straightener that got rid of frizz but not curl..so a de-frizzer really.

I'm going to give these a whirl the next time I'm in ASDA

I have these too. They work best on a tightly wound bun- when it's tight they stay in place perfectly but the thing is, I prefer messy piece-y buns and I haven't figured how to work that out with these yet.

The worst beauty gadget? These little pillows attached to haircombs used for volume. They are made by Vidal Sassoon and I got them in a little kit called "Perfect Pouf." The kit was a good deal for the pins and combs included but those mini satin pillows tied to hair combs are ridiculous. Teasing your hair the old-fashioned way would be faster than trying to get those things in your hair anyway!
