My other half, AKA "The Mister" finds beauty adverts a constant source of amusement.
Its the small print he finds amusing.
The mascara adverts for example with their lash "inserts" always provoke a guffaw for one thing, but what really gets him rolling in the aisles is the statistics.
Ad's often make claims like "95% of women found this foundation made them look less like they had five kids and a mortgage and had to give a presentation to the boss in the morning", but then the small print will tell you that they only asked 12 women... It all get a bit "Sex Panther" really doesn't it?
Olay recently did another poll - this time with a decent number of people so the stats actually mean something. They found that apparently 685 out of 742 women questioned, ie 92% felt that beauty companies did not listen to their views.
Considering how women love to treat themselves to cosmetics and beauty products, that's a poor show really! After all, even in a recession, it's often said that women will still treat themselves to beauty items as they are not massive purchases like a car or house. Nonetheless all those treats add up to multi-million pound industry, so it's about time beauty companies made more effort to listen to their customers really!
In recognition of this, Olay have set up the Big British Beauty poll, which aims to find out more about what women want...

The Big British Beauty Poll with Olay.
The poll is open to all women aged 18-65 - the first 500 000 people to take the poll will also be sent a free sample (7mls) of their new serum "Regenerist Three Point Super Serum", which is being touted as their most effective serum to date.
You can get your sample, and take the poll at www.olay.co.uk - Be quick though if you want to try the serum, as only the first 500 000 applicants will get a sample!
I took the poll and it takes about five-ten minutes to complete. The survey covers general subjects such as where you get your beauty recommendations from (top marks as they have included blogs as a source of information!), what your budget is, how you feel about your skin and what you want products to deliver, and the questions focus on skincare rather than cosmetics. So give it a whirl, have your say and get to try the new serum! It'd be great to think our thoughts count for something!

Im also a fan of the small print lol.
I did the survey and enjoyed it, the questions made me think a bit which is no bad thing on a Sunday evening - bit daft though asking would you recommend the product when you hadn't received it yet but there you go, at least they are trying to ask intelligent questions - wonder what they will do with the results? Thanks for the post. Jan
Friggin' love Sex Panther... and funny thing is, other than the hair and suit on Paul Rudd, it's not that far off of how beauty brands actually advertise!
Yes, the 9 out of 10 (and (shhhh) we only asked 10 and we paid 'em)women said they saw a change in their skin (good? bad? what were the variables? was it a controlled study?!) is just silly.
My hubs is a consultant and if I've learned anything from his line of work it's that you can make any set of statistics say anything you want them to if try hard enough!
