Update - Project Long Hair...

... as well as an update on the 3 More Inches haircare range...

I did my first double entendre packed post on this range back in March - click HERE to read it...

The range consisted of a shampoo, a conditioner, and an overnight treatment which you apply liberally to hair every couple of nights prior to the morning wash.
Packaging wise, the products are in basic but functional containers - I liked the fact that the conditioning treatment comes in a pump bottle.

The shampoo recommended that only a teaspoon type amount was necessary, and also that the hair would only need to be washed once. Sadly, I found I needed to use more, and also I did feel I needed to shampoo twice to get my hair feeling really clean. This might be due to the texture of my hair which is baby fine, although I have copious amounts of it, so it soaks up a lot of product. I also only tend to wash it every two to three days so it needs extra cleansing at times... I'm not a greasy haired wench though!

The conditioner had a very lightweight consistency, and I found again that I needed to use more than the recommended amount. The light texture did work well though with my fine hair, and didn't make it feel weighed down or lank.

Ordinarily, using more than the specified amount of a product wouldn't be too much of an issue, but in this case, the shampoo and conditioner retail at £16 per bottle, while the pre shampoo treatment is £27. So clearly this is not a budget range...

So, did it work? Well, yes and no.

I definitely noticed that less of my hair was coming out in the shower, and my hair felt like it was beginning to improve in terms of condition. However I then began to notice that my scalp was getting really really sore and itchy. I did persevere, but eventually I had to abandon ship, and give up with the system.

I discussed this with a couple of other bloggers and it was concluded that maybe I was allergic to something in it - the range contains sodium laureth sulphate, but this has never been an issue before, so I'm not really sure where to pin the blame. I've decided to avoid any potential irritants like this in the future though, especially in hair products.

The Science Bit;
In terms of hair growth, I can't really draw any conclusions as to whether it helped with hair growth or not - My hair is obviously longer than it was in March, but it's difficult to say whether this is due to the system or just the passage of time...

If I hadn't developed the scalp issues that I did, I'd have happily used this up, so it's a shame it happened. This is turning into a bit of a non review really isn't it? It would be great to know if anyone else has used this range and had similar issues though...

In other project long hair news, I've been avoiding heat wherever possible - letting it dry naturally, and only using straighteners if I plan on wearing it down. I can't tolerate this in the summer, but as summer has been a bit of a damp squib so far, it's not been much of an issue... This has really helped with the condition of my hair actually, and I plan to continue avoiding heat on an everyday basis.

I am due a cut though, so I'm getting a bit nervous after last time...

I am on project long hair as well! Doin the same thing as yourself and not using any heat where possible :) I have however been using the lee Stafford Treatment "For Hair That Never Grows Past a Certain Length" and I am seeing great results from it! I do need to get a trim soon though because my layers have grown out and my hairs getting heavy on top :( it's like one step forward 2 steps back eh?! xx

What are the ingredients in the line? I might be able to help you out (hyper-sensitive skin = lots of label reading and researching). SLS's can contribute to irritation, but only if you had reactions to SLS's in the first place. It's much more likely to be something else.

I'm glad you're back!

= I actually love love love the packaging, especially the box, love the contrast between the matt and shiny shades of green, chick yellow and light baby pink.

"The shampoo recommended that only a teaspoon type amount was necessary":
not a chance, I could try that. I even can't cope with neutrogena shampoos which for me don't lather enough. I think it's all in the head: It might make my hair clean but I love having plenty of foam on my head haha

Thank you for the review. I hope your hair grows fast real quick :) xx
Good luck with the hair trim
